Artwork Specs

Artwork Specs

A pre-order checklist for designers: resolution, color, format, bleed, printable area. Prep to it and quotes and samples come faster.

Why It Matters

Specs are not a gate — they cut rework

Printing is "produce to artwork" — the clarity and printability of the file decide whether the first piece passes and whether color is accurate. Ten minutes against this list saves most back-and-forth. No file is fine too — we can help redraw or vectorize.

General requirements

General artwork requirements
ItemRequirementNotes
Resolution≥ 300 dpiBitmaps below this blur and jag when enlarged; vector files have no such limit.
Color modeCMYK / spotScreen work is more accurate with PANTONE spot or CMYK; digital (DTG / DTF) accepts RGB or CMYK, using on-screen color as reference.
File formatAI / CDR / PDFPrefer vector (text outlined or fonts embedded); a hi-res PNG (transparent) beats JPG for bitmaps.
Bleed & placement3mm bleed for full printFull-bleed patterns need bleed; for placed art, mark print position and size to avoid trimming disputes.
Text handlingOutline / embedOutline or embed fonts to avoid substitution; very small screen text (< 2mm) is hard to keep crisp — enlarge it.
Printable area≥ 1.5cm from seamsAvoid zips, cuffs, seams and pronounced curves; for irregular parts confirm the printable / heat-pressable face first.
Risky / sampleUltra-fine gradients, curvesMetal, glass and curved parts: sample to verify adhesion first; avoid steep curves (> 30°).

Per-process notes

Screen printing

Fewer colors cost less — ≤ 6 advised; gradients need halftone, solid blocks are best.

DTG

Best on light cotton; dark needs a white underbase; not suited to large thick-white or high-stretch fabrics.

DTF

Any base color and fabric; full print, gradients and photo-real all OK; leaves a slight film hand-feel.

UV / crystal label

Best on flat hard parts (acrylic, metal, glass); avoid big curves, run an adhesion test first.

No Artwork

A reference image is enough

Not having an editable vector file is common. Send a reference image, a photo of the physical item or a hand sketch — we help redraw, vectorize or sample to confirm, then go to bulk. Design support carries no extra charge; it is included in the quote.
